When I was younger (Ok now ‘ll show my age) I used to play for hours on end with a bag of small plastic Army Soldiers. Wow did my imagination run amuck with all the things I could imagine. The battles and individual Audie Murphy type heroism a small boy held dear.
Now here comes my dilemma. The toys of the 20th century kind of scare me a little. These video games with gun battles, blood spurts and really not very good peer examples of men and women doing wanton acts of extreme violence. So what to get kids that old folks like me can be comfortable giving.
Now my mission in life is to provide as much fun to my grandkids as possible. Anyway I went out birthday shopping for the youngest and found the Nintendo DS in the local electronic store last week. A modern toy hardware system that is very cute. Even if I say so myself. I looked at some of the games available and found a cooking/baking one. She of course loved it and plays with it a lot, mostly in the car when we go out which keeps her quiet and me sane.
Had a need to go back to the store again and SHAZAM I spotted a game that featured Zhu Zhu Pets!
Now last year I purchased the Zhu Zhu pets menagerie for the grandkids. As I watched them play with these cute and adorable creatures along with the “accessories” such as a hamster mobile, a fun house even an adventure ball and much more I saw a pattern of imagination and hours of playtime for the kids emerge, thus the flashback to my childhood and the play soldiers.
Ok one of the grandkids birthday is coming up so I grab it. Since the kids are the beneficiaries of the Zhu Zhu Pet craze of last year they have all the bells and whistles for the entire Hamster World. This game goes hand in hand with the toys they already have and all the little imaginative ways to use them.
Firstly you have a massive Hamster City that any Sci-Fi flick director would love to dream up.
Next the child gets to interact with the hamsters and their unique personalities to navigate through the maze of this pretend city to collect, all the hamsters with , I will not go into the premise of the game except to say no one gets shot, bleeds or crashes in it. They purr and chatter with the same sounds as the real toys and the kids get to use their imagination, and learn all the ins and outs of the crazy world they are now thrust into.
The game is pretty easy to navigate and play for younger children, older kids will get bored quickly because it is just fun. I can honestly recommend this game as pure clean imaginative fun. Something you don’t find everyday.
A second dilemma now rears it head. How do I tell Grandma I bought myself the game and the DS and how do I ask my youngest grandchild how to play it?
